German for ‘small steps,’ the beer with the red steps is an unmistakable symbol in Austria for the art of brewing.

The largest family owned brewery in Austria, Stiegl-Brauwelt has been brewing beer since 1492 using the best spring water from the local Untersberg Mountain.

The original Stiegl brewery was established on the banks of the river in Salzburg and draws its name from the steps that led down to the river.

A brewery deeply rooted in Salzburg history and culture, famed composer and Salzburg native Amadeus Mozart visited the brewery in 1780 and had ‘a few drinks of good beer.’
