Your New Favourite Winter Beers

When summer slowly turns into winter, we put away our shorts and transition into sweater weather. We may also find ourselves changing up the beers we drink. The beers you might be drawn to in the winter could include strong and rich flavours, with notes of caramel malt, dry coffee, and cocoa.

Here’s the list of our favourites:

Chimay Blue

Style: Strong Dark Ale                     ABV: 9.0%

Chimay Blue perfectly poured into a Chimay chalice style glass held up to the light.

This trappist Belgian ale was originally launched as a Christmas beer, however with its huge success it became a permanent product and one of the bestselling of its trappist kind. This full bodied and strong beer offers hints of caramel along with a beautiful fruity aroma.

O’Hara’s Irish Stout

Style: Irish Stout                               ABV: 4.3%

O'Hara's Irish Stout can beside an O'Hara's glass with the beer poured into it.

This beer has been awarded for its authenticity bringing the flavour of the Irish stout back to its roots. First you will notice the coffee aromas, and as you take your first sip you will be pleasantly surprised by the tart bitterness that mingles with the espresso flavours in your mouth.

Erdinger Dunkel

Style: Dark Hefe-Weizen                               ABV: 5.3%

Erdinger Dunkel bottle beside an Erdinger glass filled with Dunkel in front of a warm setting with a wreath and candles.

Founded in 1886, Erdinger is one of the worlds last remaining privately owned breweries. The Erdinger Dunkel is a delicious dark version of the original Erdinger Weissbier. The first sip gives you flavours of caramel malt with chocolate notes with a dry yet thirst-quenching finish.

Duchesse de Bourgogne

Style: Flemish Red Ale                             ABV: 6.2%

Duchesse poured into a chalice style Duchesse glass on a restaurant patio table

This Flanders ale is brewed and then aged in oak casks for 18 months to achieve its fruity, sour character. The notes of candied plum play with burnt toffee and sour cherry on the tongue. This beer is tart and sharply dry, however has a sweet and lingering aftertaste.
